How Much Does A Website Cost?

There is no simple answer to this question. It’s a bit like asking ‘how much does a car cost?’. The cost of a car depends on its model and specification. The same applies to website. The cost of a website depends (amongst other things) on:

  • How many pages you need (and the amount of text and images on each of your pages)
  • What it does (what special functionality is needed)
  • What graphic design input is required
  • Whether or not the site is attached to a content editor
  • How much training and support you will need

That’s why we ask you so many questions at the start of a project. We need to understand your vision for your website. We can then scope how much work is needed and give you an honest estimate of the cost. However, we appreciate it may be reassuring to have some idea of prices before you make contact, so below is our simple guide to website costs.

It is unusual for a client’s needs to fit neatly into one of the above packages. They are intended as a price guide only.  For example in any of the packages, you may require extra pages, galleries, sliders, video links or other functionality. The first step is to get in touch for an informal chat. We will listen carefully and provide a quote that matches your requirements.

Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) – all our sites are optimised at a basic level for your name or the name of your business. If you run a business and really want your site to work hard for you, attracting more visitors (and therefore sales leads) and keeping ahead of the competition on Google, you may need more advanced SEO techniques applied to your site. We can advise on what can be done,  and give you an estimate for the cost of the extra work needed. Please ask for details.

Please note that we are not SEO consultants. If you require professional level SEO (if you are a large business for with many competitors for example), you will need to get in touch with an SEO consultant who will undertake keyword research and trend analysis. They will advise on best practices online to develop and implement strategies that improve search results for your business area. They will also advise on social media pay-per-click campaigns.

Blogs – A WordPress blog can range from something very simple to large, complex system with multiple categories and authors. The more complex your blog, the more you can expect to pay.

On-going costs – website renewal fees

All our web design packages include, hosting and support for one year. From year two onwards, if you wish to keep your site live, you will need to renew. Renewal charges currently start at £95 per year (domain name, hosting and support) for a basic website. Larger sites that need extra support may be more.

On-going costs – editing fees (for sites with no content editor)

If your site is attached to a content editor, you can update the site yourself. If your site does not have a content editor you can use our maintenance service to update your site. We need a brief for each update so we can advise on the estimated cost. We also offer yearly maintenance contracts if you require regular updates (for example if you run a blog on your site or if dates and events need updating regularly).

Domain name renewal fees

You will need to register a domain name for your site (or we can do it for you). Depending on the name, prices can range from £10 – £30 per year.
